A preface - Spoiler Alert

The following four additions to this blog are a series of meditations on all of the themes of this course. I examine them through four films written by Charlie Kaufman: Adaptation (2002), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004), Being John Malkovich (1999), and Synecdoche, New York (2008). Each film is uniquely complex in is own mesmerizing right. And if one were so inclined, it is possible to find every theme discuss in the course in all of them. Seeing as that would take an extraordinary amount of time, I have decided to assign several of the themes to each film – since some were more prominent than others – and give them all equal time. As I said these are merely meditations and at times philosophical, self-indulging rants. My paper concerning much of the same material will be much more cohesive and methodical (I hope). Since they are somewhat lengthy I have decided to release them in four installments. Adaptation occurs first because the material is freshest in my mind. Keep an eye out for subsequent additions. *Also, if you have not seen some or all of these films and would like to you might not want to read these posts, as i may give away some critical elements of the plot. Sorry.
